Custom domain
With a Pro subscription, you can use your own domain name for both outgoing and incoming email. Instead of navn@onmeil.eu, you get navn@mittdomene.no — delivered to the same inbox.
Requires Pro
Custom domain is a Pro feature. You can have one domain and up to 50 aliases in total (shared between @onmeil.eu and your own domain). See Choose plan to upgrade.
What you need
- A registered domain that you own
- Access to the DNS settings at your domain provider (e.g. Domeneshop, Domainnameshop, GoDaddy, Cloudflare, or Namecheap)
Setup usually takes 5–30 minutes, most of which is spent waiting for the DNS changes to propagate.
How to connect your domain to onmeil.eu
You'll find the setup under Settings → Custom domain.
Step 1: Add the domain
- Type your domain name in the field (e.g.
mittdomene.no) - Click Add domain
The domain appears in the list with the status Awaiting ownership.
Step 2: Confirm that you own the domain
We'll show you a TXT record that you need to publish in DNS for your domain.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| TYPE | TXT |
| HOST | _meil-verify.mittdomene.no |
| VALUE | meil-verify=<en unik streng vi viser deg> |
| TTL | 300 seconds |
Each value has a copy button next to it — use it so you don't make a typo.
Here's what to do:
- Log in to your domain provider and open the DNS settings (these may be called "DNS", "Records", or "Zones")
- Add the TXT record with the values shown
- Back in onmeil.eu, click Confirm ownership
The verification code is valid for 6 days. If you remove the domain and add it again later, you'll get a new value.
DNS propagation
DNS changes usually take 5–30 minutes to propagate, but can sometimes take up to a couple of hours.
If we can't find the TXT record, we'll show: "We can't find the TXT record at _meil-verify.mittdomene.no yet. DNS changes can take a few minutes — check the value at your domain provider and try again." Wait a moment and click Confirm ownership again.
In the background, we check the status automatically — you don't need to keep refreshing the page.
Step 3: Set up email records
Once ownership is confirmed, the status changes to Awaiting DNS. Use the values shown for your specific domain under Settings → Custom domain, or Domains in the administration panel. New-domain setup shows two DKIM CNAME records, SPF, and both primary and backup MX. DMARC is assessed separately, including policies inherited from a parent domain.
The order matters: you do not see the mail records until ownership is confirmed. While the domain sits at Pending ownership, the setup shows only the TXT record from step 2. MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC appear once ownership is in place. That is because your domain's DKIM keys are created in exactly that step — they do not exist before it, and we would rather show nothing than a value that does not apply to you.
Immediately after confirmation we read the domain and fill the SPF row with what is already published, so you can see what you actually need to extend — not an empty row you have to guess at.
MX (incoming email) — priority 10
- Type: MX
- Host:
mittdomene.no - Value:
ws.no.wayscloud.services
MX backup (failover, required for new setup) — priority 20
- Type: MX
- Host:
mittdomene.no - Value:
ws-backup.no.wayscloud.services
SPF
- Type: TXT
- Host:
mittdomene.no - Value: Copy the SPF value shown for your domain in setup.
If your domain already has SPF, combine the permissions into one SPF record. Preserve other services that still send for the domain. Do not add a second SPF record or replace an existing policy without checking it.
DKIM — two CNAME records
| Type | Host (full name) | Target (example) |
|---|---|---|
| CNAME | meil1._domainkey.mittdomene.no | s1.<claim>.dkim.wayscloud.eu |
| CNAME | meil2._domainkey.mittdomene.no | s2.<claim>.dkim.wayscloud.eu |
Copy both actual target values from setup. <claim> is only a placeholder in this guide; each domain connection has its own value. Do not use targets from another domain or an old guide.
If your DNS provider appends the domain name automatically, use the relative hostnames meil1._domainkey and meil2._domainkey in the zone for mittdomene.no. Otherwise, use the full names above. Do not append the domain name twice. A CNAME and a TXT record cannot coexist at the same hostname.
Already have a working setup?
Do not delete or replace existing DKIM records based on this example alone. Follow the values and any migration instructions for your domain in settings. If a legacy domain still shows TXT or a different selector, contact us before changing it. A domain already migrated to the correct CNAME setup does not need another change because this guide has been updated.
DMARC
- Type: TXT
- Host:
_dmarc.mittdomene.no - Value: Use the reviewed policy and reporting address from Email security / Shield. If setup asks for a review and does not offer a copyable value, complete that review before publishing anything.
Preserve an existing DMARC policy. A subdomain may be covered by its parent domain's policy; do not automatically publish a new, weaker policy on the subdomain. Shield supplies a dedicated reporting address once reporting is set up. Do not invent a reporting mailbox or replace a working reporting address with an example from documentation.
Here's what to do:
- Publish each record at your domain provider
- Back in onmeil.eu, click Check DNS now
- Once all the required records are in place, the domain becomes Active and you can start sending and receiving email
For each row, we show a status indicator:
- ✓ — the record is found and valid
- ○ — the record is missing or has the wrong value
- … — we're checking right now
New setup requires both MX records, SPF and both DKIM CNAME records. Activation also requires signing and mail accounts to be ready. DMARC status shows protection against sender spoofing; green DKIM status alone does not mean the entire setup is complete.
DKIM and later key changes
The two CNAME records point to keys dedicated to your domain, not one shared customer key. They are designed to remain in place when keys change on our side. Do not switch between or remove the records yourself.
Moving a legacy TXT setup to these CNAME records may require a one-time DNS change. That is separate from later key changes.
Automatic rotation status. The machinery that changes keys is in use on our side, but automatic rotation is not yet switched on for customer domains. We run it on our own domains first and will enable it for customers once we have complete proof that a full cycle completes correctly. Two green CNAME rows mean your setup is correct — they do not by themselves confirm that automatic rotation is enabled for the domain.
None of this requires anything from you, now or when rotation is switched on. Both records stay in place permanently. A key change happens by switching which of the two keys signs, while both records remain unchanged in your DNS. The old key is kept for a period afterwards, so mail that has already been sent can still be checked by the recipient.
About the DMARC record
DMARC tells receivers how to handle messages that fail the domain's sender-authentication checks. SPF and DKIM are used in those checks. The reporting address collects reports; it does not itself authorize sending. Shield does not replace the required DNS records; follow the actual status and guidance in Email security.
When the domain is active
When the status shows Active, you'll see:
- An activation time (e.g. Activated 18.05.2026 | 08:31)
- All DNS records marked with ✓
- A "Use as default" toggle — turn it on to use your own domain address as the default sender on new emails
- A "Choose your primary address" section — here you can switch your actual login address from
navn@onmeil.eutonavn@mittdomene.no. Email keeps landing in the same inbox, but the address shown in the sidebar and that you use to log in becomes the new domain
Aliases on your own domain
With Pro, you can have up to 50 aliases in total — split between @onmeil.eu and your own domain. Aliases like kontakt@mittdomene.no or faktura@mittdomene.no are delivered to the same inbox.

Removing a domain
You can remove a connected domain at any time:
- Go to Settings → Custom domain
- Click Remove next to the domain
- Type the domain name to confirm deletion
- Click Remove
What happens next:
- The domain is deactivated immediately — email sent to addresses on the domain after this will bounce
- The domain enters a grace period where you can click Restore to undo. The grace period itself is shown as "Deleted — restore within X hours, otherwise it's permanently removed."
- After the grace period, the domain can be removed permanently when safety checks allow it. For managed DKIM, key protection may hold up final cleanup; contact us if deletion does not complete.
To delete without waiting for the grace period, click Delete permanently now — you'll need to type the domain name once more to confirm. After this, the domain can't be restored.
After deletion
Email sent to addresses on a deleted domain will bounce. Make sure you have an alternative address or have notified your contacts before you delete an active domain.
The DNS records at your domain provider are not removed automatically — you'll need to delete them manually if you're not going to use them for anything else.
If something isn't working
- "We can't find the TXT record yet." — DNS changes can take a few minutes. Wait a bit and try again.
- "Invalid domain name" — check that you typed the domain correctly, without
http://orwww.in front. - "The domain is already connected to another onmeil.eu account" — the other owner has to release the domain first.
- "Custom domain isn't available on your current plan" — see Subscription and billing to upgrade to Pro.
- "Confirm ownership first before you can check DNS" — the ownership TXT record has to be verified before we can show/check MX/SPF/DKIM/DMARC.
- I cannot see any MX, SPF or DKIM records — they appear only once ownership is confirmed. Complete step 2 and they will show up. Do not use DKIM values from another domain or from an older guide in the meantime.
- DNS records stay as ○ after DNS propagation has finished — check that you entered the values exactly (use the Copy button). The DMARC record is one long string — make sure all of it is included.
